Music 2023-2024

Curriculum Statement of Intent for Music:

Music is for EVERYONE!

At Adderley, we believe all pupils should be empowered to engage positively with music, develop an understanding of music’s social and cultural importance and become aware of the lifelong benefits of engaging with music along with its positive impact on mental health.

We have developed a bespoke and ambitious music curriculum and our Music lead works closely with a music specialist and visiting instrumental teachers to deliver weekly class music lessons, whole class instrumental lessons and individual instrumental lessons.

We provide an exciting program of opportunities for children to perform, sing in choirs, play in ensembles and watch musicians perform.

We stive to equip our musicians of the future for their different musical journeys. In our complex, global society there is wide variety of musical practise.  We support our pupils  to approach this with confidence, curiosity and openness and not feel excluded from any of it.

Our development plan for music is aspirational and is in response to the National Plan for Music Education.

Music Mark

We are incredibly proud to have been awarded the Music Mark. This was the message from Shropshire Music Service who recommended us for the award.

“CONGRATULATIONS! Shropshire Music Service would like to celebrate the value that you place on music in your school by inviting you to become a Music Mark School. Music Mark is the UK association for music education championing and supporting access to music for all children and young people. Music Mark works to support and enable the music education sector to deliver high quality musical and social outcomes for all children and young people. On behalf of Music Mark and Shropshire Music Service we would like to thank you for all the hard work your school does to support this collective vision.”

Shropshire Music Service

We are pleased to work with Shropshire Music Service and other private providers  to offer small group and individual lessons for strings, brass, woodwind, drums/percussion, piano/keyboard, guitar, ukulele and singing. Most instruments can be started from Year 3, with some exceptions (please enquire for more details). The Music Service also offers affordable hire for most instruments if needed. Lessons take place in school, but pupils should be enrolled via the Music Service directly. Shropshire Music Service is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing high quality, accessible music education for young people in Shropshire. Lessons are usually paid for by parents, but substantial reductions in cost and a range of bursaries are available for those in challenging financial circumstances.

Shropshire Music Service also offer youth bands, orchestras and choirs.  All this information is available on the website link below.
