Today’s pupils are growing up in an increasingly complex world, living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. We strive to equip pupils with the knowledge needed to make the best use of the internet and technology in a safe, considered and respectful way, so they are able to reap the benefits of the online world.

Ofsted describe e-Safety as: the school's ability to protect and educate pupils and staff in their use of technology and to have the appropriate mechanisms to intervene and support any incident where appropriate.

At Adderley C of E Primary School internet and computer safety is embedded into areas of the curriculm as necessary and we teach explicit e-safety lessons to all year groups on a half termly basis.

How can I support my child?

For parents there is a lot of support and information to help children navigate their way through an ever changing digital world. We have signposted you to a variety of resources availlable below:

ParentInfo is a regularly updated and free feed of information, advice and sources of support that schools can deliver to parents and carers. It is a vital resource for engaging and involving parents and carers with easy-to-digest content. The service aims to deliver information on a whole range of parenting themes, the emphasis being on helping parents and carers develop their children's resilience to the risks and pressures they face in today's world. The articles and videos cover difficult topics about sex, relationships and the internet, body image and peer pressure, as well as broad parenting topics like 'how much sleep do teenagers need?'.

In line with Thinkuknow some of the content covers internet safety, but it all starts from the assumption that young people make little distinction between their online and offline lives and the issues for parents are often the same. The aim is to help parents help their children be discriminating, web-literate and resilient.

Who is behind ParentInfo?

ParentInfo is a collaboration between the National Crime Agency CEOP Command and The Parent Zone. The ParentZone is a leading provider of information, training and support designed to make the internet work for families, with special emphasis on involving parents and carers.

Thinkuknow is the education programme from NCA-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline.

Safer Internet Day is an annual event run by the INSAFE network and is celebrated every year across Europe, and in other countries worldwide. In the UK, Safer Internet Day is organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre (www.saferinternet.org.uk), and this year’s theme is “Let’s create a better internet together.” To celebrate the many positives of the internet, and to raise awareness of the issues that children and young people face online today, the children will be learning about staying safe online and how to be a responsible digital citizen.

We believe that internet safety education is a crucial element of the curriculum and an essential part of young people’s development.

Thank you for your continued support.
