British Values 2023-2024

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is "right" and "wrong", all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

In the construction of our PSHE curriculum, we have been very mindful to thread the British Values throughout. For example, whilst applying for a post to become a member of one our school's councils, children will be asked to vote to support the individuals running for the job! This supports students in the early understanding of the ‘British Value’ - Democracy.

Within our PSHE scheme of work you will be able to observe, through our document which outlines how we cover British Values throughout the school, where each of the other value’s feature across the modules.

You will also find, through our SMSC Audit, RE provision and Mental Health awareness various assemblies, opportunities, visits, visitors and events which further support British Values, particularly our assembly on ‘Protected Characteristics’.
